The Osaka Convention & Tourism Bureau has released the „Guidelines for MICE Event Organizers for Infectious Disease Control“ on June 3, 2020.
MICE events (a general term encompassing exhibitions, academic conferences, and other business events) have long generated business opportunities and innovation, pushed research forward, and contributed to regional vitalization, fulfilling a vital role as a driving force in economic development. However, amid the COVID-19 pandemic the MICE industry has seen an unprecedented number of cancellations and postponements, stagnating the business activity that MICE events bring forth and creating a severe economic impact.
As such, the Osaka Convention & Tourism Bureau, with consensus from the Osaka prefectural and city governments, has taken various factors into consideration including government policies, the voices of MICE industry partners, the precedent of other industries, and the resumption of MICE activities around the world, in order to formulate these guidelines (under the guidance of infectious disease experts) for business event organizers meant to mitigate infection risk and provide recommendations on operations management.
We encourage business event organizers to use these guidelines to ensure the peace of mind of all event attendees. We sincerely hope for the re-opening of MICE events so that they may once again contribute to economic development.
Guidelines for MICE Event Organizers for Infectious Disease Control
We intend for MICE event organizers when hosting events in Osaka to use these guidelines to incorporate infectious disease risk mitigation in their event planning and management, so that both organizers and attendees can satisfactorily enjoy the event, and so that the Osaka MICE industry can be further vitalized.
